Iwata is a brash and self-centered individual who is infatuated with Matsuya and Ropponmatsu Unit 1. He is often disliked by his neighbors and co-workers due to his inappropriate comments towards women and rivalry with Ropponmatsu Unit 2, which frequently leads to physical assaults. In volume eight of the manga, Iwata dies of colon cancer but is quickly resurrected when Shioji provides him with an android replica body. There are various theories about his relationship with Watanabe due to his strong attachment towards him, while Watanabe despises Iwatas guts.
