The second main character in the story is named Marco. He has a calm demeanor and is revealed to be a criminal who had previously worked with the CIA but got into trouble by hacking their database for reasons that are not clear. Despite his past as a criminal, Marco shows concern for the well-being of the other survivors, even though they only have six weeks left to live. He has put himself in danger multiple times without hesitation to save others, including those who dislike him. While it is debatable whether Marco has been completely truthful with the group, he has never flat-out lied to them. Marco also serves as an unofficial leader of the group due to his knowledge and natural abilities. In prison, Marco built up his strength, got tattoos, and developed a more intimidating persona that made him appear like a thug rather than a hacker. However, despite this new image, Marco's intelligence with computers still surprises Katherine and Kasumi, even though they already knew who he was.
