In the past, damos witnessed arceus sacrificing its life in order to save the world from meteors. although arceus sustained heavy damage during this act, it still granted damos the jewel of life, made up of five plates, as a token of gratitude for saving its life. however, when the time came for damos to return the jewel of life at the next solar eclipse, marcus was fearful that michina town would revert back to its lifeless state if this were done. as a result, he and damos betrayed arceus, with damos under the control of marcuss hypnosis. ash, dawn, brock, and sheena traveled back in time with dialga's help to prevent marcus from betraying arceus. it was revealed that marcus had once been an underling of damos but later overthrew him and put him in prison. while in prison, damos learned from ash and the others that he would betray arceus in the near future, and it was marcus who was behind everything. with the help of his friend, the spiky-eared pichu, damos managed to break free and save sheena from certain doom. he also convinced her that he was not a traitor like the legend portrayed him as being. together with ash, dawn, brock, and sheena, damos stopped all of the pokémon from attacking arceus by connecting with them. by doing so, he managed to calm down arceus's anger and connect with it on a deeper level. after bidding farewell to his "future children," damos made a stone engraving for them to see when they returned to the future.
