The mother of the Nohara family is a typical housewife from post-war Japan who performs various household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, cooking, sewing, and childcare to varying degrees of competence. Despite being caring and nurturing at heart, her actions are often contradictory, making her appear hypocritrical. She frequently issues strict orders to her husband and children but breaks them when they're out of earshot. She punishes her husband, son, and occasionally her 1-year-old daughter harshly for disobedience while spending little on the essential needs of her family members except for her favorite daughter, Himawari, and herself. Despite being known for her generosity at times, she frequently engages in impulsive buying during bargain sales, thinking it saves money but ultimately leading to excessive purchases that defeat the purpose. Additionally, she secretly hoards money for personal use.
