In the anime series Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, we are introduced to Nanoha Takamachi, a sweet but naive third-grader who feels like she's missing something in her life despite seeing everyone around her having someone they're very close to. However, things change when she meets Yuuno Scrya, a mage from another planet who has come to Earth to gather the "Jewel Seeds," mysterious artifacts containing great power. Nanoha agrees to help him, but soon finds herself facing challenges as she encounters Fate Testarossa, another girl searching for the same Jewels. Six months later in As, Nanoha remains in contact with her best friend Fate. However, things take an unexpected turn when she is assaulted by a special "Belka" type mage named Vita of the Wolkenritter. Just in time to save her comes Fate, but Vita also has backup. The group of four - Nanoha, Fate, Hayate, and Vita - are seeking mages known as "Linker Cores" for an unknown purpose and manage to steal Nanohas from them. Ten years later in StrikerS, we see Nanoha as a commander who trains new mages. She takes in two fresh recruits, Subaru Nakajima, who idolizes her, and Teana Lanster, his best friend. Nanoha is now an S-ranked mage and remains close friends with Fate and Hayate.
