In the manga and anime series "hunter x hunter," mitos freecss is gons adopted mother and cousin to ging freecss. while in the manga, mito does not want gon to become a hunter because she remembers how ging only returned home once after taking the hunters exam, leaving his family behind. in contrast, in the 2011 anime, mitos is gings cousin, and in the original anime and novelization, mito was made into the sister of gons mother, making her gins brother-in-law. mitos anger stems from ging leaving her alone at home while he went off to become a hunter. she also remembers how gon's mother gave birth to him and died shortly after without ever seeing her husband again. as such, mitos fought for custody over gon in order to protect him from becoming a hunter who did not care about his family like ging did. despite this, mito is a kind woman who accepts killua as one of gons friends, even though she learned that he was an assassin. she believes that people must do everything they can to save others lives. in the series, when gon and killua found a wounded animal in the forest, mitos scolded killua for suggesting to kill it and instead suggested healing it with their nen. this led to the development of an alternate solution to help the animal recover.
