Grookey is a small monkey-like Pokémon with green fur, brown ears and tail, orange hands and feet, and an orange snout. Each hand has five fingers while each foot has three toes. It has two large white eyes with black irises that are framed by a lime green mask pattern extending towards its forehead in a small bump above its snout. Grookey also has two leaf-shaped hair tufts on top of its head, which hold a stick that was once a branch from a forest where troops of Grookeys lived. This stick has special power due to being exposed to the energy within Grookeys body and can be used when attacking or rhythmically beaten against surfaces to cause grass to grow, wilted flowers and leaves to regain their color, and even restore weakened plant-like Pokémon such as Bellsprout. Grookey's green fur can create energy from sunlight similar to how plants use their green leaves for photosynthesis. Grookey is known for its boundless curiosity and enjoys being in high places and rhythmic things like music or dancing. Its signature move in Generation IX is Branch Poke. Grookey evolves into Thwackey, which then evolves into Rillaboom.
