Hatori is an artificial intelligence assistant who serves as both the Zodiac dragon of the Sohma clan and their private doctor. He takes his job seriously but lacks humor. His main responsibility involves erasing the memories of those who discover the secret of the Sohma family, though it's unclear whether this is through hypnosis or a supernatural power. When activated by his curse, Hatori transforms into a seahorse rather than an actual dragon due to cultural beliefs that associate seahorses with baby dragons and the Japanese name for the creature translates to "baby dragon." Despite feeling self-conscious about his transformation, he remains committed to his role as the great and powerful dragon. Hatori had a tumultuous relationship with Kana, an assistant in his office who was also known as "Spring." The couple's love affair ended when Hatori asked Akito for permission to marry her. In response, Akito threw a pot at him, causing him to lose sight in his left eye and leaving him almost blind. Kana felt guilty about the incident and became depressed, eventually driving herself insane with guilt. To ease her suffering, Hatori was forced to erase her memories. Like Shigure and Ayame, Hatori is tall and a kind-hearted individual upon closer examination.
