Waku was an energetic and confident young boy who acted like a typical shōnen main character. he had previously been a talented soccer player and was considered popular among his friends. his dream was to become a professional player, but after learning that someone similar to him didn't make it despite having the talent, he lost his resolve and stopped playing soccer. this led him to attend a summer class where he became a pilot. he was chosen as the first pilot of the children and celebrated with zearth on their shoulders. however, during the battle with bayonet, ushiro accidentally pushed waku off the side into the ocean, leading to his death despite having a simple plastic folding chair. the number of casualties in the manga is unspecified, but there were 2,343 in the anime.
