Gamera is a made-up creature that appears in Japanese movies about giant monsters known as kaiju. It first appeared in the 1965 film "Gamera, the Giant Monster," which aimed to compete with Toho's successful Godzilla franchise. In this film, Gamera was depicted as a massive, flying turtle that breathed fire and caused destruction. However, as more films were made, Gamera became more benevolent and took on the role of protecting humanity, particularly children, nature, and Earth against alien threats and other large monsters.
