Tomoya Okazaki is the main character in Clannad and is known for being late to school, skipping classes, and staying out all night. As a result, he has been labeled as a delinquent. Despite this, he is close friends with Kotomi Ichinose and Youhei Sunohara, and meets many new people throughout high school, including Kyou, Ryou, Tomoyo, Fuko, and Nagisa. He enjoys solving problems for his friends and seems to care deeply about them all. Some girls at school are interested in him romantically, but he may not be aware of this. The central plot of Clannad revolves around Tomoya learning the importance of having a family and friends. In an alternate timeline, there are versions of Tomoya who end up with Tomoyo and Kyou respectively. Since his mother died in a car accident when he was young, Tomoya has lived with his father, Naoyuki Okazaki, but their relationship has been strained due to an injury sustained during a fight three years ago.
