Kyou is a boy from the Sohma family who has a hot-headed personality and can easily become angry or provoked in any situation. He's cursed to transform into an animal of the Zodiac when hugged by someone of the opposite gender, with his being the cat - famously known for not becoming one of the official twelve animals due to rats' trickery. Kyou dislikes Yuki, a member of their family who is currently the rat, as they constantly fight and he always loses. However, since meeting Honda Tooru, who admires cats from Zodiac legend, Kyou has shown a softer side. He was separated from his Sohma clan, including his parents, which may have contributed to his short-fused temperament and stubbornness. Kyou trains in martial arts with the goal of defeating Yuki, whom he sees as his rival. His martial arts master is someone he highly respects.
