Chiku-tan is an individual who possesses great enthusiasm for inventing things and providing assistance to others. They keep their hair tied with a piece of bamboo charcoal that moves when they have new ideas, typically during times of problem-solving. Viewers can see similarities between Chiku-tan and Binchō-tan, both of whom live in an old house far from the city but share their home with others, including Chiku-rin, her younger sister, and her grandfather. Despite this, Chiku-tan is fearful of ghosts. Chiku-tan often takes on jobs similar to Binchō-tan's, and after meeting, they quickly formed a close friendship. As time went on, Chiku-tan and Binchō decided to raise a dog together. The name "Chikurin" is derived from the Japanese word for bamboo charcoal, while "Takesumi" refers to the same material used to tie her hair. August 24 marks Chiku-tan's birthday.
