The person who borrowed money from Kaiji before the first tournament on Espoir was a coworker of his and also a debtor. One year prior to the tournament, this individual convinced Kaiji to become responsible for repaying the loan if Furuhata failed to do so. Despite being thought to have vanished, Kaiji later finds him on Espoir and forms an alliance with him after Funais betrayal.
