Barry is a pokemon trainer from sinnoh who has an energetic personality. when he encountered ash, he demanded compensation for being hit by him within 10 seconds and counted down the time on his pokétch. after four seconds passed and ash was still stunned, barry began complaining about not having enough time to deal with the situation. barry looks up to paul's training methods and wants to become a strong trainer like him. he shares some similarities in mindset with paul, such as capturing powerful pokémon for training purposes. however, unlike paul, he still cares for his own pokémon. dawn knew barry when they both lived in twinleaf town, but barry does not remember her. he only recognizes ash, brock, and dawn because they participated in the sinnoh double battle tournament with paul and were friends with kenny, dawn's rival.
