Ash and his companions were waiting to have lunch when an individual approached them and requested a battle from Ash. Although he stated that he was unable to work due to weakness, Ash promptly prepared for the fight (in Japanese, it was mentioned that he would only engage in a brief battle before eating). However, despite their eagerness, Ash successfully defeated all five of his opponents' Pokémon in quick succession. Pikachu, specifically, dealt three of the trainers' Pokémon damage with one Thunder Shock attack. The trainer was taken aback by the defeat and has not been seen since then. Notably, he had a previously unknown Generation II Pokémon when he first appeared, which was Donphan.
