Misa hayase, a central character in the macross series, is known as lisa hayes in the robotech edited adaptation. born into a family with a century-long military legacy and the only daughter of admiral takashi hayase, she has always dreamed of joining the military since childhood. this aspiration was fueled by her desire to be reunited with her boyfriend and first love, riber fruhling, who tragically passed away shortly after leaving her on earth. after graduating top of her class at the un spacy officers academy, she served aboard the sdf-1 macross as a bridge officer. though her mind was constantly preoccupied with duty, her perspective shifted when she met hikaru ichijyo, an aspiring pilot. their relationship evolved from a professional one to a friendly personal one and eventually to a romantic one, despite hikaru's initial infatuation with lynn minmay. additionally, misa had brief feelings for kaifun, who resembled her deceased love riber physically. she was promoted from first lieutenant to captain and later major before being chosen as the commander of the new sdf-2 megaroad-01 ship and crew.
