In BW034, Alder was introduced as the champion of Unova's region. We see his debut during a flashback of Trips childhood where he battles a Trainer with Bouffalant while Trip watches in amazement. Afterwards, Alder approaches the child and lets him pet and feed Bouffalant before encouraging Trip to train hard when he grows up. They then shake hands.
