Kurama Shinjirou valued the flute player greatly as a source of comfort during difficult times. Despite being ridiculed by Jirou for not being able to fly, Suirou remained supportive. However, Jirou grew frustrated with Suirou's coddling and believed that it was preventing Kurama from learning how to fly on his own. Jirou decided to take Kurama to a deep crevice where the Raijiuyuu slept. The only way out for Kurama was by flying, otherwise he would be eaten by the beast. Suirou learned of this and flew into the cave in an attempt to save Kurama. Unfortunately, lightning struck him and he lost his ability to fly. Despite this setback, Kurama managed to escape with minor injuries.
