The protagonist of School Days ONA Ver. (Harem ending) is Makoto Ito, whose fate is determined by the player's choices in the game. He ends up sharing Makoto with Sekai & Kotonoha after they decide it's best for both of them to do so. However, this ending has not been confirmed yet. In TV Ver., Makoto is also the protagonist and initially seems like a composed student. But his addiction to sex leads him to become more apathetic, rash, and egotistical towards others. He tries to fix things after realizing he's wrong but still causes harm. Makoto lives with his divorced mother and has a younger sister named Itaru. His friends are Taisuke Sawanaga and Otome Katō. In the final episode of TV Ver., Makoto faces consequences for his actions.

Though he is initially casual, gregarious and understanding, his addiction to sex over time corrupts his personality and he instead becomes more apathetic, rash and egotistical towards others, regardless of interpersonal harm or later consequence. However, once he truly knows he has done wrong, he is quick in his attempts to remedy the situation. Makoto lives with his divorced mother and has a younger sister name Itaru who lives with their father.
He is good friends with Taisuke Sawanaga and Otome Katō.In the last episode, he is killed by Sekai and is seen being with Kotonoha on a nice boat, his head in her arms.
