Mahiro Fuwa has departed for a month in search of his family's murderer without any leads on who it might be. When Yoshino is held captive at gunpoint, Mahiro suddenly appears and effortlessly saves him by stopping bullets mid-air. He declares that he has made a deal with the strongest sorceress, Hakaze Kusaribe, to help find his family's killer in exchange for her assistance in killing the murderer himself. After rescuing Yoshino, Mahiro informs him about an epidemic affecting living beings, which turns them into metal. He reveals that the Kusaribe clan plans to revive the Tree of Zetsuen, a powerful artifact capable of destroying the world.
