A young pilot named Messer who specializes in flying duties for Delta Platoon is described. He takes his responsibilities seriously and doesn't trust Hayate's carefree personality. Despite their differences, Hayate admires Messers impressive flying skills. Before the planet Alfheim was destroyed by Var Syndrome, Messer lived in Marienburg on that planet. Arad saved him from infection but he still carries a bracelet playing "AXIA" to suppress his symptoms. Although he knew Kaname liked Arad, Messer has feelings for her. His Siegfried unit, Δ02, is marked with white, black, and gray colors and bears a Grim Reaper symbol on its back-fitting his nickname as the Grim Reaper.
