Hanae is the younger sister of Sawanoi Ko's mother, which makes her Kou's aunt and an extended relative of Kyoko. She enjoys spending time with others and finds it entertaining when Kyoko and her friends visit their family villa during the summer. Unlike her older sister, Hanae is very socialable. Although she is a bit embarrassed by her sister's harsh comments about Kyouko's mother and their guests in private conversations that Akira accidentally overhears, Hanae has two friendly daughters who are around Kou's age. On a day off, they teach Pon-chan, Yassan, and Mogi how to ride horses while Hanae takes care of Fumi and Akira after they catch summer colds.
