Satotz is an individual who serves as the examiner for the initial phase of the Hunter Exam. During this test, he evaluates the examinees' endurance by leading them through an underground tunnel of uncertain length at a fast walking pace. Despite appearing stationary, the candidates are compelled to run rapidly in order to maintain pace with Satotsu's speed. Following their emergence from the tunnel, they proceed to the Numere Marsh, also known as "The Swindlers Nest," a treacherous swamp inhabited by dangerous, man-eating creatures. As a Hunter archaeologist in his everyday profession, Satotz was inspired by Ging and decided to obtain a Hunter license. Initially driven by a sense of civic duty, he later developed an affinity for Gon and wished to assist him in the exam.
