Sayumi is a classmate and friend to both Juna and Tokio. Although she has no knowledge about Junas secret mission of saving the planet, she tries to support her friend through her emotional turmoil caused by her confusing personal life. Initially, she attempts to help Juna and Tokio maintain their relationship. However, as time goes on, it becomes apparent that Sayumi harbors feelings for Tokio. This is evident in her behavior such as removing her glasses when she sees him, which she does so after he mentions that she looks more attractive without them. In the "death of Japan," Sayumi and Tokio take care of her younger siblings who are dying.
