Hiiragi served as the leader of the team, yet he did not appear frequently in flashback scenes and most daily tasks were managed through consensus or Gyokuran's leadership. Despite being the base leader, Hiiragi is rarely seen in flashbacks from Shion and Mokuren's perspectives, detailing their lives before arriving at the moon base, life on the moon base, and the deteriorating situation after the Homeworld was destroyed. Although he made an executive decision to prevent scientists from evacuating to Earth following the destruction of their home planet, Hiiragi was the third scientist to pass away.
