The main character in the series is named Jil and he is an adventurous youth who yearns to reach the summit of the Tower of Druaga. He possesses great resolve and ambition as demonstrated in the first episode where his vivid fantasies about becoming a celebrated hero are portrayed. As a Guardian class, Jil initially wields a shield with a retractable spike in one hand and any makeshift weapon he can find in the other, typically a stick. Later on, he is given a sword by King Gilgamesh which he utilizes alongside his original shield during battles. Although relatively new to climbing, Jil proves himself to be a capable fighter when he joins forces with Kaaya and Ahmeys' party. Furthermore, there are similarities between Jil and the character of Gilgamesh from Gilgamesh's flashback in episode 3 where Gilgamesh is referred to as "Gil," which is a variant name for Jil.
