Ishikawa is a specialist in information warfare and technology within Public Security Section 9. While there have been hints that he may be cybernetically augmented, it has not yet been confirmed in the series. He stands out among his colleagues due to his large beard and unkempt hair, as well as being the oldest field operative in Section 9. Ishikawa was previously part of a team with Kusanagi and Batou while serving with the Ground Self-Defense Forces in Japan's UN contingent in South America. He is one of the earliest members to join Section 9, and seems to have a close relationship with the Major. Ishikawa runs a gambling parlor called Parlor Ishikawa, where he occasionally employs the cyberbrains of elderly men who play there for heavy data gathering tasks. Despite his laid-back demeanor, Ishikawa is an important member of Section 9 with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
