Martin  

Martin was one of Johan's students who played a dangerous game with another child. The objective of the game was for them to walk towards each other on the ledge of a building while their eyes were closed, and whoever made it first without falling off would be declared the winner. Unfortunately, Martin fell off the roof and ended up in the hospital. Dr. Reichwein visited him frequently but spent more time comforting his mother than interacting with him. Dieter snuck into Martin's hospital room and they went for a walk together. While walking, Martin expressed that everything in life was boring except for the game he played with Johan. He tried to explain the game to Dieter, who didn't understand it completely. To clarify, Martin took Dieter up to a rooftop to demonstrate the game better. However, Dieter refused to play such a dangerous game as he valued life's simple pleasures and the people he knew too much to risk losing them all in an instant. Just as Martin was about to fall off the roof, Dieter saved him. This incident made Martin realize that he didn't want to die and decided to stop playing the game.
