During the pursuit of Optimus Prime and the Ark by Megatron, Shockwave was tasked with guarding Cybertron in Megatrons absence. He vowed to keep the planet as he left it and faithfully carried out his duty for four million years after Megatron and other Transformers were entombed on Earth. Despite his diligence, no progress was made in the war due to a deadlock caused by dwindling energy supplies. In 1984, Shockwave attempted contact with the lost Megatron, who had been awakened along with other Transformers on Earth. Together, they created the spacebridge, an inter-galactic transport system for sending energon cubes made from Earth's energy to Cybertron. In the initial test of the spacebridge, Megatron was sent to Cybertron, but Shockwave soon returned him so that more runs could be conducted.
