Gouki is a skilled practitioner of ancient jujutsu arts used by samurai soldier-warriors in feudal Japan. At sixty years old, he has been training since before World War II and specializes in using the martial arts principle of aiki to turn his opponents' attacks against him. In the Maximum Tournament series, Gouki battles against Jack Hanma and reaches the semi-finals. However, during his third match with Doppo, he acts erratically and claims to have killed many people. Despite this, Gouki later teams up with Baki to face Yanagi Ryukou in the Search of Our Strongest Hero series and has friendly sparring matches with Biscuit Oliva and Mohammad Ali Jr. In the Maximum Tournament, Gouki faces Roger Harlon in round one and Shinogi Koushou in round two before losing to Jack Hammer in round four. When not fighting, Gouki is eccentric and senile but lives life without fear. Although Gouki is said to be a master of the old style of jujutsu, many of his techniques resemble Aikido, and he even bears a resemblance to Gozo Shioda, the founder of Yoshinkan Aikido.
