The main character of the story, Tohma, is an energetic young boy who lives with his parents on Papen Island's shoreline. His father homeschools him and teaches him a special martial art called Papan Kenpo. Tohma meets Helga while exploring an old statue after escaping from an orphanage in Chikao. He later helps her escape permanently. Despite being impulsive and quick to anger, Tohma has good intentions and cares for both Helga and Chitto. Immediately drawn to Helga, he finds himself helping her.
