Matsushita was a frequent visitor at Oya-sans Oden stand and used to be a professional soccer player. After watching Sakura Josuis match against Musashinomori, he became intrigued by the team and its players. However, his experience with his former teammate Amamiya had been chilling, which led him to quit soccer altogether. Despite this, Katori, Sakura Josuis advisor, tried to convince Matsushita to be their new coach. Eventually, his old friend Amamia advised him to forget about the past and move on, reminding him that he still loved soccer even after that incident. Inspired by his friend's words, Matsushita became Sakura Josuis new coach. As their coach, he was very knowledgeable due to his prior experiences in soccer. He was able to analyze the opposing team's strategies and come up with his own, often confusing them. On the field, he taught his team but preferred to let them solve their problems off the field. However, he would give advice when necessary.
