Sakura is an accomplished leader who has been leading her friends since childhood. They refer to her as "anego," which is used by Mafia members to address senior female members with respect. She idolizes her father, a powerful martial artist, and is devastated when he dies in the first attack of Festum. Sakura possesses exceptional skills in piloting Fafners and becomes the first pilot after Kazuki. Despite being bloodthirsty for revenge against those who killed her father, she turns out to be less skilled as a pilot than expected. Over time, she learns to accept herself and Kenji for who they are, but the burden of piloting a Fafner weighs heavily on her. Following her father's death in the first episode, Sakura lives with her mother Kiyomi at the Kaname family dojo. She develops a friendship with Canon Memphis when she moves to the island and seems to reciprocate Kenji's love for her.
