Adjutant Black plays a minor role in Dragon Ball series. He is soft-spoken and quick-witted, carrying out Commander Red's orders and updating Red about the remaining Red Ribbon officers. Notably, Black is one of the few black characters to appear in Dragon Ball. Hearing Red's excited talk about becoming taller, Black was horrified, stating that his reckless ambition had cost the Army dearly as shown in Goku's invasion and may ultimately lead to its downfall. In response, Red said it didn't matter how many soldiers he risked; what mattered was reaching his goal. He made it clear that Black, like the rest of the Red Ribbon Army, was expendable. Enraged, Black shot Red in the head with his pistol and killed him instantly. In the anime, Goku was offered a place in Black's new army - the Black Ribbon Army - but he declined. Later, Goku killed Black after he tried to kill him while wearing a robotic suit.
