A man once had his body replaced with an exoskeleton made of machinery, similar to the Nobuseri. Despite being seen as a clown or nuisance by some, Kambei is known for getting easily angered and causing trouble. He carries a large sword that doubles as a chainsaw when necessary. Initially rejected by six others, Kambei welcomes Kikuchiyo into his group after the latter explains why he wants to help the villagers - because like them, he comes from a farming family. Kambei is generally well-liked and especially appreciated by little Komachi, who asks him to be her husband when she grows up. He agrees on one condition: that she keeps track of his fake lineage.
