From birth, Ritsu was cursed under the sign of the monkey. His parents always had to apologize for his actions, causing him to be uncertain and unsure of himself. He felt that he took away from the world by simply breathing. Dressing as a girl brought him comfort but also caused more apologies from his parents. When Tooru first saw him, she thought he was a girl until he accidentally transformed. Despite this, Tooru convinced Ritsu that there was a purpose in life that he had yet to discover. Shigure enjoys playing with Ritsus insecurities and gullibility, similar to how he does with his editor Mitsuru. When the two meet, they realize they share this commonality.
