In Ou, during winter, a tiger-striped (Brindle) puppy named Gin was born. Due to his birthmarkings, it was predetermined that he would become a bear dog. However, when Gin was still young, he witnessed his father Riki being thrown into a gorge by the paw of the bear Akakabuto and disappearing. This event prompted Gin's training as a bear dog under the tutelage of old man Takeda Gohei. Later, while on a journey in the mountains, Gin encountered a group of wild dogs who had formed to kill Akakabuto. He joined their quest and embarked on a voyage to find strong dogs willing to assist them in their fight against the bear. As he grew older and became the leader of his platoon, Gin's sense of justice and benevolence inspired many dogs to swear loyalty to him.
