Dosu is a genin from the Sound Village and leader of his squad. During the chunin exams, they were under Orochimaru's direct supervision. Dosu uses a sound amplifying device on his left arm called a melody arm to increase the vibrations he makes when hitting something, which causes damage to opponents ears and disrupts their sense of balance. He was the only member of his squad who advanced to the second stage after defeating Choji Akimichi. Although Dosu showed dedication to Orochimaru's task of killing Sasuke Uchiha, he became disillusioned when he learned that Orochimaru had given Sasuke a cursed seal. Realizing that he and his team were merely pawns used to determine Sasukes worth, Dosu vowed to kill Sasuke in order to undermine Orochimaru. In an attempt to lessen the obstacles beforehand, Dosu made a rash decision to take down Gaara prior to the actual match, which ultimately cost him his life.
