Natsume is a young woman and her sister Kurumi are itinerant martial artists who have been searching for their father, Soun Tendo, for years. They briefly took over Akane Tendo and Ranma Saotome's position as heirs to the Tendo Dojo and its style of Anything Goes Martial Arts after defeating them in a challenge. However, they eventually conceded their claim following another match. Natsume and Kurumi are the only characters from the OVAs who were not originally present in the manga.
