Dr. RanTao was the leader of the research team that created the Bount race and appeared in the anime's Bount arc. She resembles Yoshino Sōma, except for glasses and her hair up (like Nanao Ise). They also share the same voice. Despite looking young, Dr. RanTao is much older than she appears and requires long naps to maintain her appearance. Out of guilt for creating the Bounts accidentally, she took pity on them and helped build a sanctuary where they could live. She convinced the Bounts to allow her to protect them from Soul Society. Upon returning to Seireitei, Dr. RanTao was arrested and put on trial for failed soul experiments. When the order was given to eliminate the Bounts as a threat, she escaped to the real world to help them flee, including Jin Kariya. She also gave him "Messer," his doll. After being caught, her shinigami powers were sealed and she was exiled from Seireitei. Currently, Dr. RanTao resides in an underground shelter in Rukongai and engages in minor experiments to improve the use of spiritual energy. During her confrontation with Jin Kariya, she used a kidō shotgun.
