In grade school, Ichiko and Kurumi were best friends and both had feelings for Yusuke. They gave him chocolates, but only Ichiko received a response. She got an accessory for her hat from Yusuke, who she later learned was the one who sent it. Kurumi wanted the accessory too and threatened to end their friendship if Ichiko didn't give it to her. Despite not wanting to lose their bond, Ichiko had no choice but to comply with Kurumi's request. Kurumi then confessed her feelings to Yusuke, but was rejected. She later told Yusuke that the accessory meant nothing to her and he became angry, cutting off communication. As a result of this incident, Kurumi began badmouthing Ichiko, making it difficult for her to trust or form close relationships with others.
