In Heart no Kuni no Alice, the main character is Alice who feels plain and constantly compares herself to her sister. One day, while waiting for a card game, Alice falls asleep and wakes up to see a white rabbit dressed in a coat, vest with a chain watch. She refuses to follow the rabbit and tries to go back to sleep, but it turns into a human and takes her away. They both fall into a black hole and land in Wonderland.
Alice's adventure begins with unique characters like Mafia, royalty, clock makers, and crazy hoodlums who are all drawn to her. As she tries to leave this dream and return to reality, Alice is faced with the question of whether or not she will fall in love with Wonderland.
One of the few similar characters to the original book is Alice herself. She reacts more realistically than the original Alice, questioning her surroundings but still being dreamy and absent-minded. The other inhabitants of Wonderland are drawn to her because she values life differently from them. However, Alice often considers returning home but is dissuaded by painful memories of her sisters Edith and Lorina that are induced by Nightmare.
Alice chooses to reside in the neutral Clock Tower with Julius Monrey. She is close with him and Boris, and gets headaches when she thinks about whether she has seen Peter before. Overall, Alice's journey through Wonderland teaches her valuable lessons about life and love.
