In the game "Kaede Fuyou" was a childhood friend of Rin who grew up with him in the same house after their parents died in a car accident. Kaede took care of Rin and did everything from household chores to making him meals. She is down-to-earth, modest, polite, and soft-spoken but has shown signs of psychosis and even violence when shocked. In the game's backstory, after her mother died, she abused Rin because she blamed him for her mother's death while he took her punishment to prevent her from falling into despair and depression. To atone for her past actions, Kaede decided to cook Rin's meals and do all the household work. Although Rin did not want this, he was afraid of making Kaede have a relapse if she could not punish herself. Despite having romantic feelings for Rin, Kaede considered herself unworthy of his love or staying by his side. However, Rin deeply cared about her.
