Kazuki Makabe

Kazuki appears to be a unique main character in a shounen series. Despite being initially unassuming, he possesses genuine kindness and sincerity that sets him apart from other heroes of his genre. Although he turns out to be an incredible fighter after being thrust into war unexpectedly, fighting is not the central focus of his personality. Like many children on Tatsumiya Island, Kazuki was oblivious to the Earth's invasion and strives throughout the series to understand why adults kept this information from him, particularly regarding his estranged childhood friend Soushi. As he battles for his life constantly, Kazuki questions his identity and beliefs, but ultimately grows as a person and becomes an ideal hero. Kazuki originally piloted the Mark Elf (XI), but later received the more powerful Fafner "Mark Sein." His mother, Akane, was assimilated by Festum long ago, and he now lives with his father, Fumihiko. Kazuki enjoys spending time with Soushi outside of battle and feels comforted in Maya's presence. He is an excellent chef due to living alone with his father and doing all the cooking and shopping. Despite being honest, Kazuki seems to be terrible at card games, as he lacks the ability to bluff effectively.
