In the anime series, we are introduced to a young man named Shizu who possesses an exceptional talent for swordsmanship. He journeys through the desert with his loyal companion, Riku, a talking dog. Although Shizu only makes a brief appearance in one episode of the anime, he plays a significant role in several stories centered around him and Riku in the novels. In these tales, Riku serves as the narrator except for one instance. Later on, Kino and Hermes encounter Shizu and Riku once more, but it seems that only Kino remembers Rikus name. It is revealed in the sixth anime episode that Shizu is actually the son of a hedonistic king.
