Johnny, マタギのジョニー

An elderly hermit with unsightly teeth appears in episode 21 of the anime. he rescues jin from the river and brings him back to his hut, which is adorned with fish. when jin wakes up, he cannot move yet, so the old man places a bowl of food on the other side of the hut. however, when jin tries to reach it, he discovers that the bowl is empty. the old man points out that at least jin was able to move that much and heads down to fish in the river. musashi, who is knee-deep in water, tells jin that fish have eyes in the water itself, and one must trust the flow to catch them. he lunges but comes up empty-handed. "it doesn't always work," jin remarks. when jin prepares to leave, he thanks musashi for his lesson, quoting an old chinese proverb about teaching a man to fish. however, musashi denies any help and claims that his name is miyamoto musashi. jin recognizes the name and laughs it off as impossible, but the anime website gives him another name: matagi.
