The youngest brother of the ran family and eighteen years old. he has earned the title "genius" due to his exceptional abilities. despite referring to his four older brothers as "foolish," he does not address them by their names, instead using nicknames such as shuuei = "foolish elder brother the fourth." recently, he has been referred to as soul friend #1 and eigetsu, soul friend #2 (soul friend #2.5). he is known for his impulsive behavior, which often leads him on unexpected journeys. for example, while buying ingredients for chicken stew with shuurei, he ended up trading soy beans for boiled eggs, then exchanging those for spring onions, wood blocks, flowers, fish, and straw. in the end, he was left with only one stalk of straw. later in the series, he engages in ghost hunting after hearing about a late-night apparition. he also plays his flute without warning, often out of tune. due to his unpredictable nature and difficulty being told what to do, he is considered necessary for the ran family. however, many find him strange and annoying, causing them to distance themselves from him. shuurei was the only one who put up with him, earning her the title "soul friend." additionally, according to kurou, he is also a potential match for shuureis political marriage.
