A skilled Viking leader who leads a band of mercenaries. He is related to Lucius Artorius Castus, a Roman military commander. Askeladd was hired by Floki to kill Thors, the father of Thorfinn, one of his men. Thorfinn became determined to avenge his father and joined Askeladd's band with the goal of fighting him in a fair battle. However, he is always outmatched by Askeladd's combat skills. Askeladd is an expert tactician and swordsman who can manipulate others into following him. He turned a group of pirates and raiders into loyal followers, and even managed to turn enemies like Thorfinn, Thorkell, and Prince Canute into allies.

Askeladd was contracted by Floki to assassinate Thors, Thorfinns father. Thorfinn became obsessed with avenging his father and joined Askeladds band with the sole intent of killing him in a fair fight, but is always outclassed by Askeladds combat skill. His real name is Lucius Artorius Castus.
