In the anime and manga series "One Piece," Crocodile is the leader of an organization known as Baroque Works. This group consists of assassins and spies who work for him. As a member of the Shichibukai, he leads a rebellion in the kingdom of Alabasta with the goal of obtaining access to a hidden Poneglyph beneath the palace. He believes that this will reveal the location of Pluton, a powerful weapon which he wishes to control in order to establish his military might. However, Crocodile is defeated by Monkey D. Luffy and has his Shichibukai status revoked by the World Government. As a result, he is imprisoned. Crocodile possesses the Devil Fruit Suna Suna no Mi (Sand Sand Fruit), which allows him to control sand and turn into it to avoid damage. According to series creator Eiichiro Oda, if Crocodile had not been a Shichibukai, his bounty would have been more than twice its current value.
